“I began this week with a trip to the Vinisud wine fair in Montpellier.
This is a sort of small Vinexpo. It’s quite an enjoyable event because the venue is spacious and the people are relaxed. Southern wines are often good and sometimes excellent.
I ran into several Bordeaux vintners who also produce wines there. It was definitely worth a visit. My week was also marked by regular telephone conversations - several times a day - with Americans.
There is a reason for that. We are opening two new offices, one in the San francisco Bay area and one in New York.The two major American companies which market Bordeaux wines have now lost interest. This is quite an important affair for Bordeaux wine sales on the other side of the Atlantic.
There is now a business opportunity window ready to be opened. However, apart from the marketing question, we must make sure that wines from our vineyards continue to be accessible in the US. That is the risk if no one is there to market them.”
